2 drivers charged for DUI after wreck

| Oct 27, 2014 | DUI |

Two drivers were accused of drunk driving after they were both involved in the same accident in Georgia on Oct. 24. The crash took place in Atlanta at the intersection of Peachtree Road and Battle Avenue. The accident also involved a police cruiser.

Atlanta police say the three-car collision occurred at approximately 3:15 a.m. While a police cruiser was driving behind a GMC Sierra, a Toyota Corolla attempted to move into position ahead of the Sierra. After the two vehicles collided, the police cruiser was sideswiped by the Sierra. Both drivers who were involved were taken into police custody and charged for DUI.

According to reports, the driver of the Sierra proceeded to travel south for about a quarter of a mile before coming to a stop. It is unclear if the Toyota driver received additional traffic citations for pulling in front of the Sierra. There have been no reports about any injuries resulting from the accident.

A person who has been charged for DUI after a similar incident may have a number of possible defense strategies that they could employ. When determining how to proceed, it may be in the defendant’s best interest to speak with a criminal defense attorney about the type of sobriety tests they were given at the scene. If the results of a breath or blood test fell within a known margin of error, an attorney might decide to challenge the validity of the results. Additionally, an attorney might argue that other factors like a medical condition caused a defendant to perform poorly on sobriety tests.
