Teen charged with DUI in car crash in Georgia, passenger injured

| May 2, 2014 | DUI |

The decision to drive is a personal choice, as is the decision to drink. However, when both of these decisions mix together, the consequences can affect more than just the person drinking and driving. This became apparent in a recent incident involving one young woman’s lapse in judgement, which resulted in a DUI charge in a car crash in Georgia.

The incident happened after the 18-year-old driver was returning home from watching a professional baseball game with her 16-year-old friend. Apparently, the woman was under the influence of alcohol when the crash happened at approximately 7:20 p.m. Along with possible alcohol consumption, speed may have also contributed to the cause of the crash.

The young woman was heading east on the road when her rear tire veered off the road slightly. She was driving a Chevrolet Silverado at the time. The truck ended up crossing both lanes and veered off the north shoulder of the road. The passenger side of the truck collided with a tree. The driver’s younger passenger suffered numerous injuries, which included a broken pelvis and a fractured skull.

The driver was taken into custody by authorities and was charged with a DUI while being under the age of 21. She was also charged with failing to maintain her lane and causing serious injury with a motor vehicle, which is considered a felony. The woman will now have to defend herself in front of a judge in Georgia. However, with a strong legal defense strategy, she may be able to mitigate the consequences.
