Police in Georgia reported that over the weekend a Fox 5 Atlanta news anchor was involved in a car accident. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the accident. This is especially good news for the evening news co-anchor since she was arrested after the crash. Police said that the anchor might have been driving drunk when the crash occurred.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offense, but first-time offenders may be able to reduce their penalties and possibly avoid a conviction when they work with a strategic and aggressive defense attorney. However, even first-time offenders can face serious consequences for DUI if they are involved in a crash that results in serious or fatal injuries.
According to The Associated Press, the co-anchor for Fox 5 Atlanta was arrested and suspected of DUI after a car accident on Sunday morning. The crash occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. Police reported that the news anchor was driving her vehicle when she accidentally swerved into an oncoming car.
The accident was minor. The driver of the other vehicle was injured but was released from the hospital shortly after the accident.
When police responded to the accident scene, law enforcement authorities claimed that they could detect the odor of alcohol on the news anchor. Police asked the woman to take a field sobriety test but she allegedly refused to do so.
The news anchor has since been released from jail. The incident is still under investigation but police reported that the woman could face a DUI charge in addition to charges for reckless driving and failure to maintain a traffic lane.
