Avoid a DUI arrest this St. Patrick’s Day

| Mar 14, 2011 | DUI |

The editorial staff of the student newspaper of Armstrong Atlantic State University, The Inkwell, penned an editorial recently to remind students not to drive while under the influence during the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day and spring break festivities. According to The Inkwell, 31 percent of traffic fatalities in Georgia over the last two years involved an alcohol-impaired driver.

The editors remind spring break and St. Patrick’s Day revelers to plan ahead on how they will get home safely from any festivities where they expect to be drinking. The editors recommend not only designating a sober driver, but also having a back-up sober driver. They also recommend pre-programming numbers for cab companies into your cell phone’s speed dial.

The editors point out that even when people have the best intentions and think they have the best-laid plans, they can still end up driving while intoxicated, which is why they recommend having several different back-up plans.

Savannah’s annual St. Patrick’s Day festival is a big draw for students who want to relax over spring break. The editors give readers a tip for an additional back-up plan: AAA Auto Club South and Budweiser are offering free Tow to Go services for people who call between March 17 and March 20 in Savannah. The free tow services are confidential.

Have a safe and fun spring break!
