Vaping alcohol can increase your risk of a DUI

| May 24, 2018 | DUI |

Your friends have introduced you to a unique way to consume alcohol — vaping. A vaporizer lets you feel the effects of the alcohol much faster and stronger than if you drank it. That’s because it goes directly to your brain and bloodstream from your lungs.

If you can get drunk on less alcohol and it doesn’t pass through your liver or stomach, that’s a good thing, right? Wrong.

First of all, it’s easy to consume far more than you realize. Because the liquid remains in the vaporizer, you don’t know how much has actually gone in your body.

Furthermore, because the alcohol doesn’t go into your stomach, your body doesn’t expel it when you’ve had too much. Vomiting is actually a defense mechanism for getting rid of alcohol when you’ve had too much. Therefore, it’s easier to end up with a dangerous amount of alcohol in your body that can lead to alcohol poisoning.

Finally, vaping alcohol and then getting behind the wheel can lead to tragic consequences. Even if you manage to make it where you’re going in one piece, you risk a DUI. Breathalyzers (and ignition interlock devices) can recognize vaped alcohol because their readings are based on the air in a person’s lungs.

If you’re arrested for DUI, it’s no less serious because you used a fancy vaping device like the Vaportini. It’s never wise to try to deal with the justice system on your own. An experienced Georgia DUI attorney can work to protect your rights and seek to mitigate the consequences to your future.
