Last week, actress Reese Witherspoon and her husband James Toth were arrested in Georgia after a traffic stop. A Georgia State Patrol officer reported that he had stopped the couple in their vehicle after noticing that the driver of the vehicle had been weaving in and out of the correct traffic lane.
CNN reported that Witherspoon and her husband were arrested in Atlanta last Friday morning. Witherspoon’s husband had been driving when police conducted the traffic stop. Toth was arrested after police suspected that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol. Although Witherspoon was not behind the wheel, she was arrested as well for disorderly conduct during the traffic stop. According to reports, Witherspoon has since apologized for the way she had acted during her husband’s DUI arrest.
Like many drivers who are worried or upset about being accused of drunk driving, Witherspoon reported that she was worried for her husband when the Georgia State Patrol officer had pulled him over last week. Witherspoon admitted that she had too much alcohol prior to the arrest, and as a result, she said some things she is not proud of.
The arresting officer reported that Witherspoon had accused him of not being a real officer and that Witherspoon had tried to get out of the vehicle during the traffic stop after the officer had asked her to remain seated and quiet.
Witherspoon was arrested for disorderly conduct, but she will be able to avoid a conviction as long as she successfully completes a diversion program. Her husband may face consequences that are far more serious, though. After taking field sobriety tests and a breath test, Toth was arrested for DUI. The arresting officer said that Toth had failed to maintain his traffic lane, and while conducting the traffic stop, the officer noticed that Toth’s eyes were bloodshot. Police said that the breath test revealed that Toth was above the legal limit of 0.08.
