Elderly woman accused of driving under the influence

| Jul 30, 2011 | DUI |

Being charged with a DUI is a frightening experience. You are not sure what will happen to you and whether you are going to be able to clear your name. You also start to think about the logistics, such as how you will get around while you sort things out, what affect this will have on your insurance, and what punishment you might have to face. One woman is going through the same thing after police claim she was driving drunk.

Police have taken the 67-year-old woman custody after she allegedly struck a bicyclist and driving under the influence. The Milton, Georgia, woman had been driving home in the early morning hours when she allegedly came upon a bicyclist. Police claim that she hit the bicyclist with her car and fled the scene. They are charging her with driving under the influence, or DUI, and felony hit-and-run.

The woman told police and family members that she was scared, and rightfully so. She was driving at 12:25 a.m. when, as police allege, she hit a bicyclist. It is not clear if she knew exactly what happened, but WSBTV asserts that she knew she had hit someone.

The woman eventually went to the police station after family members convinced her to report the accident. According to other reports, a family member drove her to the station and waited for her to turn herself in. Police claim that the woman was still intoxicated when she was arrested. The police have not released what the woman’s alleged blood-alcohol content was, either at the time of the accident or at the time of her arrest. The elderly woman had been held at the Cobb County jail, but was released on a $10,000 bail.
