Christina Aguilera arrested for drunkenness

| Mar 1, 2011 | DUI |

Christina Aguilera was arrested for drunkenness after the car she was riding in was pulled over by law enforcement officers. The singer’s boyfriend, who was driving the car, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, police officers said that Aguilera was “extremely intoxicated” when they pulled her over near the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.

Police officers arrested her on suspicion of being drunk in public and brought her to the police station to sober up. It is not against the law to sit in a car as a passenger while intoxicated, and there was never any intention to prosecute her on the charges. Rather, they said they arrested her for her own safety and that of the public. The misdemeanor arrest, however, will go on her record.

Aguilera’s boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He was brought to jail pending $5,000 bail. Aguilera was arrested around 3 a.m. in the morning and left jail around 7:30 that same morning. She was let out the back of the jail to avoid the waiting paparazzi.

Aguilera filed for divorce from her husband, Jordan Bratman, last October. The divorce is scheduled to be final on April 15. The soon-to-be ex-couple has a three-year-old son.
