NBA player arrested for DUI in Georgia

| Feb 23, 2011 | DUI |

NBA player Jarrett Jack was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Snellville, Georgia, in Gwinnett County over the weekend. Jack was a former star basketball player for Georgia Tech and now plays for the New Orleans Hornets.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jarrett Jack apologized on Monday to his coach and team for his DUI arrest over All-Star weekend, saying that he made a mistake, but was determined not to repeat it.

The team’s general manager, Dell Demps, has said that the team is disappointed about Jack’s arrest. The team will not discipline Jack, but he will have to face charges in court. Jack has been charged with DUI, speeding and failure to maintain a lane.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jack was pulled over after Snellville police observed his car speeding and weaving. Jack was brought to the Gwinnett County Jail after failing field sobriety tests.

According to the AJC, Jack’s blood-alcohol concentration was measured at 0.079, which is below the legal limit of 0.08. Officers maintain, however, that Jack’s blood-alcohol concentration was tested 90 minutes after arrival at the jail and police factored in the fact that alcohol dissipates in a person’s system at the rate of 0.02 grams per hour. With that calculation, Jack’s blood-alcohol concentration was over the legal limit when arrested and he was charged with DUI.
