DUI Patrols Out During the Pre-Christmas Holiday Weekend

| Dec 17, 2010 | DUI |

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season will cause more people to be on the roads, and more people on the roads will be met with increased law enforcement patrols. According to the Rockdale Citizen, the weekend of December 17 through December 19 is National Holiday Lifesaver Weekend. If you’ll remember correctly from a previous post, the entire month of December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month (3D Month).

The National Holiday Lifesaver Weekend is meant to reduce the number of traffic deaths over the holidays in Georgia and across the nation. The national campaign was kicked off yesterday with National Lights On for Life Day. Law enforcement officers will drive with their lights on to remind people not to drive while intoxicated.

Extra state and local law enforcement officers will be on the road looking for dangerous drivers. They will be looking for people driving under the influence as well as motorists who are speeding or committing other traffic violations. They will also be checking for the proper use of child seats.

The effort will include “high visibility patrols, concentrated patrols and road checks,” according to a press release from the International Association of Chiefs of Police, which coordinates the National Holiday Lifesaver Weekend.

With the extra traffic on the road, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to where you are going and avoid driving if you are tired. Be safe out there and have a fun holiday season!
