George Michael Jailed for DUI

On Behalf of | Oct 7, 2010 | DUI |

George Michael is currently serving a month-long prison sentence after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of drugs in August. The singer of such global hits as “Faith” and “Careless Whisper” crashed his car in July into a storefront in London while under the influence of marijuana. Police officers found Michael, 47, passed out behind the wheel and in possession of marijuana cigarettes. He was charged with DUI.

Michael was sentenced to eight weeks in jail, but was told he would spend four weeks in prison and four weeks on probation. He has also been fined and banned from driving for five years. Recently, Michael has spoken publicly to refute rumors that he is receiving special treatment in prison. He said that, to the contrary, he has not been given special treatment, but that he has been treated with kindness. According to Reuters, he said his only special treatment might be if “some of the guys here are letting me win at the pool table.”

Michael has had other run-ins with the law for drug possession and DUI.  In 2007, the singer was banned from driving for two years and sentenced to 100 hours of community service for driving under the influence of drugs. In 2008, he was also arrested for possession of drugs. Michael says that he has entered into rehab and is serious about beating his addictions.
