Be Safe This Halloween Weekend

On Behalf of | Oct 30, 2010 | DUI |

Halloween is this weekend and will likely mean lots of fun parties and crazy costumes. It is also likely to mean law enforcement will be on the look-out for intoxicated drivers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently launched the Halloween 2010 Impaired Driving Prevention Campaign with the messages “Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving” and “Drunk Driving: Over the Limit, Under Arrest.” The campaign also touts the message, “Don’t let Halloween turn into a nightmare,” which it could if drunk driving led to a crash.

The campaign also tries to get its message out to women with several posters of women in costumes that might be men, except they have removed their masks, revealing a woman. A tagline across their body reads: “Men aren’t the only ones driving buzzed this Halloween.”

The NHTSA website also reports fatal crashes that occurred on Halloween and involved alcohol. From 2005 to 2009, 356 people in the U.S. were killed in car crashes from 6 p.m. on October 31 to 5:59 a.m. on November 1.

Enjoy yourself this Halloween, but please be safe!
