An Atlanta City councilwoman who was arrested last week for allegedly driving drunk has reported that she will not let the arrest affect her ability and desire "to work hard for the citizens." Cleta Winslow has held her council position since 1993. She told reporters after her arrest that she will not let the arrest get in her way of running for re-election.
Last week, actress Reese Witherspoon and her husband James Toth were arrested in Georgia after a traffic stop. A Georgia State Patrol officer reported that he had stopped the couple in their vehicle after noticing that the driver of the vehicle had been weaving in and out of the correct traffic lane.
Atlanta police reported that a Georgia state representative was pulled over last week and arrested for driving drunk. The Republican lawmaker allegedly failed field sobriety tests and breath tests after he was stopped for running a red light, according to the police report.
In a video in possession of the Georgia Department of Public Safety and reviewed by the Associated Press, Braves pitcher Derek Lowe denied drinking or racing after being pulled over by police officers in Atlanta at the end of April. Lowe refused to take a breathalyzer test and was charged with DUI and reckless driving. Prosecutors later dismissed the charges after deciding that they lacked the evidence needed to pursue a DUI case against Lowe.

The starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, Derek Lowe, was arrested on Thursday night on suspicion of driving under the influence. He has been charged with DUI. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Lowe was pulled over on Thursday night around 10 p.m. after Georgia State Patrol troopers reportedly saw his Porsche racing with another vehicle on Peachtree Road.
As noted in a previous post, last fall, T.I. was ordered back to prison by a federal judge in Atlanta for violating the terms of his probation. The rapper was on probation after serving time on weapons charges. T.I. was arrested and charged with violating his parole after police officers pulled him over in Los Angeles.
Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what happened June 19 around 4 a.m. when Jordan Griner, an intern in Governor Sonny Perdue's office, was killed in a car crash with Christa Scott. Scott, 26, has been charged with vehicular homicide and DUI. Both young people had promising futures ahead of them, but now one has been put to rest in Augusta, and the other is facing anywhere from 1 to 15 years in prison.
The funeral was held today in Augusta, Georgia for Jordan Griner, 24, an intern with Governor Perdue's office who was killed in a car crash early Saturday. Atlanta police are still investigating the crash, but Christa Scott, 26, reportedly blew through a red light and crashed into Griner's vehicle.
