Man faces DUI charges after fleeing from a police car accident

| Jun 24, 2013 | DUI |

Individuals from all walks of life can suddenly find themselves in a difficult situation with the law. It does not matter if someone is a priest, a judge, a celebrity, a mother of three children, or if he or she lives permanently in Georgia. If a police officer pulls that person’s car over and the officer believes he or she is guilty of a DUI, there exists the danger of stiff legal penalties and the possibility of jail time.

A man from Georgia has recently been charged with more than one DUI related legal violation after he was involved in an accident with a police vehicle. Fortunately, it does not appear that any injuries happened as a result of the car crash, but police say that after the incident the man fled the scene. They followed him and put him under arrest inside the nearby parking area of a cell phone store. In addition to DUI, he has been charged with fleeing an accident.

Although the man was from Georgia, the incident took place in Alabama. This means that Alabama laws will apply to his circumstances. State laws across the country often have many similarities. However, sometimes DUI laws can be different and it is best that individuals facing such allegations have a DUI defense attorney representing them who is familiar with the laws of the state where the incident took place.

Finally, it is important to remember that just because an individual is accused of a DUI does not mean that he or she will be found guilty in a court of law. Also, it is never advisable to flee the scene of an accident, as it will only make matters worse from a legal defense perspective. It is always better to treat a police officer with respect, and trust that the best option is to resolve the matter in court, in order to achieve the most favorable outcome in a DUI case.
