Paris Hilton Facing Drug Charges, Boyfriend Arrested for DUI

On Behalf of | Sep 8, 2010 | DUI |

Police pulled up alongside a Cadillac Escalade in Las Vegas on August 27 and pulled it over, claiming to have smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. This is not an unusual scenario for the Vegas Strip; what has led this particular case to be reported all over the media is that Paris Hilton was the SUV’s passenger.

After Hilton and her boyfriend, nightclub mogul Cy Waits, were pulled over by police, the officers began to investigate Waits for driving under the influence. Police say that Waits failed the field sobriety tests that they administered and they arrested him for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and brought him to jail to spend the night.

While police were conducting their DUI investigation, Hilton asked to be escorted to a nearby hotel where she could have some privacy away from photographers and gawkers who had gathered around the scene. While inside the hotel, a baggie of cocaine fell out of Hilton’s purse in the presence of the police officer and Hilton was arrested for suspicion of cocaine possession.

Hilton claimed that the cocaine was not hers and the purse was borrowed. Attorneys for both Hilton and Waits have questioned the police methods that ended in the arrests of their clients. The attorneys have challenged the police claim that there was sufficient evidence to pull over the vehicle in the first place. If attorneys can prove that police were not justified in pulling over the SUV, any evidence against both Hilton and Waits in the DUI and drug cases could be thrown out.
