UGA Players Arrested for DUI, Underage Possession of Alcohol

| Jul 15, 2010 | Underage DUI |

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that University of Georgia police arrested two UGA football players last Saturday. Clark County jail records list that the players were charged with misdemeanor offenses, including underage possession of alcohol. Dontavius Deshawn Jackson, 20, was charged with underage DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and other traffic violations. Tavarres King, 19, was also charged with underage possession of alcohol.

Both players were booked early Saturday into the Athens-Clarke County jail. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that UGA football players were arrested three times this week. A player was arrested Monday for the misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer.

Jackson, a redshirt sophomore tailback, was allegedly involved somehow in an April attack  on a married couple in a taxi in Athens. Jackson told a reporter at the Atlanta-Journal Constitution that he was the “peacemaker” of the situation, but couldn’t give more details because police were investigating the situation.

The latest arrests tied to the UGA football program follow the DUI arrest of the former UGA athletic director, Damon Evans. Evans was arrested for DUI last week in Atlanta. The athletic director and married father of two was pulled over on suspicion of DUI and found to have an intoxicated young woman for a passenger. The young woman, who Evans has described as a friend, was charged with disorderly conduct. He was about to start a new contract as the athletic director, but was forced to resign from his position after his arrest.
