Underage DUI and other crimes reported at University of Georgia

| Oct 16, 2013 | Underage DUI |

A student of the University of Georgia was arrested on drunk driving charges on Sunday, Oct. 13. The University of Georgia student was taken into custody at approximately 3:30 a.m. She was stopped by officers after she allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign. Because she is only 20 years of age, she will be charged with underage DUI.

Police allege that after pulling the student over, the officer noticed the smell of alcohol emanating from the young woman’s breath. She informed the officer that she had just come from the Waffle House. She further told the officer that she had been at a concert before that. The UGA student was required to take a field sobriety test and allegedly she exhibited signs of intoxication. She was immediately arrested and booked into the Clarke County Jail.

Other incidents of alleged crime were reported by individuals in and around the university. For example, one University of Georgia student reported a car break-in and a stolen MacBook Pro on Sunday Oct. 13. On the same day, a woman reported that a man kissed her and touched her breasts without permission.

University of Georgia police are actively arresting and disciplining students — some for theft, some for underage DUI and some for sex crimes. Those who are arrested and accused of such crimes will have the opportunity to defend themselves in court. Also, it is not unheard of for the wrong person to be arrested and for a person to be accused of a crime that he or she did not commit. In such cases, it may be possible to get all of the charges dropped and walk free of the charges.
